So, you, like most people, have a tired, old, boring lamp in your home that you are sick of seeing every day. You are on the verge of "setting it free" at Goodwill, but wait! You can, very easily, breathe new life into it! All it takes is some spray paint and some acrylic paint (see left)!
The lamp I tried this with (see below) started out with a basic white-on-white coloration. I am going for a grey color scheme with pops of deep green and yellow in our place, so I grabbed grey spray paint for the base and yellow acrylic paint for the shade. I ended up just getting a sample of the yellow paint since the shade is so small. I also made sure to grab a spray paint that advertised the ability to adhere to ceramic so that it would go on well and create a durable surface.
I began by cleaning off the lamp and shade, then I simply sprayed a thin coat of the grey spray paint over the body of the lamp. While that was drying, I used a brush to cover the outside of the shade with the yellow acrylic paint. I tried to keep the coat as light as I could to allow maximum light penetration. I then moved back to the base and added a second coat of spray paint. And that's all folks! In under 30 minutes, I took my lamp from being tired and boring to fun and refreshed!
